Surprise! Split-Level Homes are Trending

Split-level homes were all the rage in the 1970’s, but recent Google searches reveal they could be back in demand!  According to Google data, split-level home searches reached an all-time high this past year during May and July.

While contemporary styles with an open floor plan are favored, the idea of rooms on multiple floors is becoming more desirable. In addition, the increased privacy is a great option for multigenerational households.

Ranch-style homes are still amongst the favorite with Millennials, however, the unique variation of split-level is growing in popularity. The split-level has the same amount of square footage, but that space is better utilized throughout each story.

If you are into fixer-uppers, a few modifications can make these 1970’s homes modernized.

  1. Replace single-hung windows with casement windows. This modern style features cranks and swing out to open windows.
  2. Change out exterior lighting and house numbers. This can be simple and an inexpensive way to modernize.
  3. Replace the garage door. This is a feature you may not have thought about, but this can greatly increase curb appeal. Opt for doors with glass-like panels or a wood-look door.

With a few tweaks, split-level homes have endless possibilities and will look great for years to come. Whether you are in the market to buy or sell a home, get in touch with me, Robin Jones, at (402) 750-6683 (MOVE) to learn more about real estate today!
